About Us
Boyle Toyota's roots can be traced back for nearly seventy years in Sumter. In 1933, Barnes Boyle Sr., E.B. Boyle, and S.F. Stoudemire, owners of the Boyle Construction Co., began Boyle Motor Co., and Mr. R.D. Blanding was named general manager. Beginning with the Chrysler-Plymouth franchise, Packard and Willys were soon added. In 1940, Chrysler-Plymouth was replaced with Oldsmobile-Cadillac-GMC.
In 1942 the production of cars was halted when the automobile manufacuters were retooled to produce the weapons of war. With no new cars, Boyle Motor Company was closed. Just as the car manufacturers retooled, so did we. Boyle Motor Company was now a bowling alley and teenage canteen for the duration of the war.
In 1945 the war was won, and the production of cars began again. Boyle Motor Company was reopened by Barnes Boyle Sr, as the Oldsmobile-Cadillac-GMC dealership, with Lester W. Allen as general manager. In 1949, one of our founders, Barnes Boyle Sr. died, and Barnes Boyle Jr. became the new owner. His brother, Ladson Boyle, joined him in 1955.
In 1969, Boyle Motor Company welcomed the addition of Toyota, making us one of the first Toyota dealerships in South Carolina. With the addition of Toyota came growth, and that meant a new building. In 1971, Boyle Motor Company moved to 2540 Broad Street where it is located today. The Toyota franchise remained on Main Street, and Boyle Toyota Inc. was formed with Mr. E.C. Huckabee serving as Vice President and General Manager until being succeeded by Mr. W.H. Turner in 1978.
Again, growth and success made change a necessity. In 1980, we moved into a new facility on Broad Street, next door to Boyle Motor Company. In 1992, Barnes Boyle III, became Vice-President and General Manager. In 2000, the position of General Manager was filled by Chris Somheil.
During our history as a Toyota franchise, we have received awards in every aspect of dealership operations. We have attained recognition and awards for Parts Excellence, Service Excellence, Sales Excellence, and Customer Realtions Excellence, but our highest achievement has been being a 4 time recipient of the Toyota President's Award. This award is given only to the most outstanding dealers in the nation, and is achieved by maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction, and overall excellence in every area of operation.
Our history is not over, because now we are beginning a new chapter. In February of 2002, ground was broken on a renovation and expansion project, so that we can have a larger and more modern facility to better serve our customer's needs. This expansion was only possible because of our customers and the support they have shown us year after year. We have been a family owned business for three generations, and it is this commitment to family which drives us to make customer satisfaction our single greatest goal. Because we consider each customer to be a part of our family, we look forward to having you join us as we take this next step in writing our history.
